Heritage Open Days logo

Heritage Open Days are a festival – every year – of the less-noticed or less-known elements of our history – elements that are linked to specific places.  The events often take the form of guided tours.

Here at Middleton Railway, Leeds, it takes the form of an illustrated talk on the history of the railway.

Since here is the location of the world’s first commercially-successful steam engines, as well as being the first railway to be created be Act of Parliament, and the first line of standard gauge to go into preservation there is much to  talk about.

The talks, which last some 25 minutes, take place on the hour from 10.00 to 15,00.

Our passenger services (Diesel hauled today) leave Moor Road at 1030, 1110, 1150, 1230, 1330, 1410, 1450 and 1530

Here, if you wish, you can disembark the train, and enjoy a walk around Middleton Park, have a picnic, and enjoy the calm tranquillity of the area.

Alternatively, you can stay onboard, and return to Moor Road, where you can purchase a cup of tea, coffee and light refreshments in the cafe.

Once refreshed, you can ride again – our tickets are Day Rover tickets!

We also have 2 Footplate Passes available today. Please ensure you have read and understood the information on our Footplate Pass page before purchase of these tickets.
